Irfan Khan's Punjabi movie "Qissa" releases tomorrow in India

After winning accolades at various International Film Festivals, Punjabi film Qissa will see an Indian release tomorrow (February 20). Presented by National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Qissa will release on multiple platforms such as select Indian theatres, DVDs and Video on Demand (VoD). 

Directed by Anup Singh, Qissa is a co-production between India, German, France and Netherlands, and has won several awards over its festive release that lasted from 2013-2014. 

About the movie

The first film to shoot under the Indian-German co-production treaty, Qissa is an international co-production between India, Germany, Netherlands and France. The Punjabi-language film, presented by Germany's Heimatfilm and the National Film Development Corporation (India), is co-produced by Heimatfilm with Dutch production house Augustus Film, France’s Cine-Sud and the NFDC. Having successfully released in Germany on 10th of July 2014 in 20 screens and France on 3rd of September 2014 in 13 screens, the film not only garnered rave reviews but was also hailed as the second best film to be released in France according to the French press.

Plot

Set amidst the ethnic cleansing and general chaos that accompanied India’s partition in 1947, this sweeping drama tells the story of Umber Singh, a Sikh played by Irrfan Khan. Uprooted by the religious violence that came with partition in 1947, Umber and his family move to a safer locale, attempting to forge a new life for his family while keeping their true identities a secret from their community by bringing up his fourth daughter as a son. As Umber's daughter is raised as a boy, the characters are propelled with greater and greater urgency towards their inevitable fates. And when Kanwar Singh is married to a girl, Neeli, this gives birth to even more complications.

Diljit Dosanjh all set to make Bollywood Uddari with Udta Punjab"

Finally the wait is over. After Gippy Grewal's Bollywood entry with Second Hand Husband, Diljit Dosanjh is all set to make his Bollywood Uddari with Udta Punjab. 

Diljit Dosanjh who is the undisputed superstar in Punjabi Cinema after blockbusters like 1984 Punjab, Jatt and Juliet series has really come a long way since his debut in 2011 with Jihne Mera Dil Luteya. 

In the past, Diljit Dosanjh has sung a few Bollywood songs for Yash Raj Films, TIPS and the Deols in Bollywood but this will be first time that he will be acting in a Bollywood film.

Now, the biggest news is this that not only has Diljit Dosanjh replaced the current Pakistani heartthrob Fawad Khan and Ayushmann Khurrana in Udta Punjab but he will be starring opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan. This is a big surprise as Diljit Dosanjh has always said that he has had a huge crush on Kareena Kapoor Khan. 

Directed by Abhishek Chaubey (Ishqiya series fame), Udta Punjab also stars Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
