Having hogged the limelight for quite a while now, the Desi Rockstar will be seen sporting a turban on the silver screen for the first time. He says, "Initially we were quite skeptical about this idea. But since the whole set-up, which has been shot in Punjab, was meant to be Desi, to keep that flavor we decided to experiment with a turban. But I am wearing turban in only 20-30% of the film." The rest of the film was shot in Canada.
Punjabi industry has seen several romantic comedies lately, what is the difference in Singh Vs. Kaur? "It's not really a rom-com. It is more of a comedy weaved around my character Nihal Singh who's a typical pind da munda. For the first time we have introduced action which is directed by the south legend, Ram Laxman. Besides, its six-beat music has that typical Punjabi flavour, with which audiences will be able to connect."
Gippy, who has been seen mostly in comedy oriented movies so far, plans to accelerate into more serious and issue-based cinema. He adds, "I heartily wish to work on such projects but producers approach me only for comedies. I have urged them for such subjects but they believe comedy is what sells. Punjabi audience is not open to serious cinema yet, all they want is hard core entertainment. Also, there's a need for new faces in the industry, only then is experimentation possible."
Next on, Gippy will be seen in films like, Best Of Luck, Lucky Di Unlucky Story, and Bhaji In Trouble (Akshay Kumar's debut punjabi production).
